Five String Banjo – Novice

You’ve been picking three-finger banjo for a few months and can play simple tunes in the key of G. You can play the forward roll and the forward-reverse roll. In this course you will be introduced to new rolls, new techniques, new licks, new tunes and the use of a capo. We will be exploring the five-string banjo together in a supportive, small-group context (maximum 5 students).

You May Achieve

Improved timing, intonation and fluency.
The ability to play:
** new rolls (alternating thumb roll, backward roll)
** new techniques (slide, pull-off, hammer-on)
** new licks (G lick, D lick).
An expanded repertoire of tunes. Increased confidence in your playing.

You Will Need To Bring Along

A five-string banjo with a strap, finger picks, thumb pick, electronic tuner, banjo capo, fifth string capo.
All course materials (printed notes) are provided free of charge.

Steve Williams – Bio

Steve Williams is a keen amateur musician and member of the Porch Pickers acoustic band. He has been playing five-string banjo for five years.
