Art Fundamentals

Discover the Artist Within – Level 1

Art course using drawing media for adults. This is an introductory or refresher course with no previous experience required. Improve your skills learning to see as an artist “sees” through drawing exercises.

Unlocking the potential artist within and increasing your capacity to “see” and draw with accuracy.

The materials you will need to bring along are:
A3 sketchbook or visual diary
2B and 4B pencils
Eraser

Discover the Artist Within – Level 2

To help you develop further as a potential artist this course is designed for those who have completed the level 1 course. Learn about Painting and Drawing methods. Increase your media knowledge in the techniques and processes of painting and drawing.

Increased skills and confidence in various processes of painting and drawing. Improved understanding of media knowledge of painting and drawing. Preparation for the next level to develop the artist within.

The materials you will need to bring along are:
A3 sketchbook or visual diary
2B and 4B pencils
Eraser
Your art kit – any materials you already have for painting and drawing

Dates: Monday, 03 February – Monday, 31 March 2025 [8 Sessions]

Develop the Artist Within – Level 3

How to further develop your knowledge and broaden skills and perceptions. Designed for hobbyists or art students who have studied at the intermediate level of discover the artist within. Challenges are set to encourage the building of ideas to improve conceptual development and encourage the experimental use of media to broaden and develop unique approaches to media.

You will develop and increase self-expression and perceptual awareness, using a range of media. You will also expand and broaden your skills and perceptions.

The materials you will need to bring along are:
A3 paper or visual diary
Pencils
Charcoal
Scissors
Paper glue
Any art materials you have and prefer to use to make art.

Annette Playsted – Bio

Annette Playsted is a seasoned art teacher with 30+ years’ experience as a secondary art teacher and 15 years as a community education art tutor. Annette is a practising artist who has held regular one person art exhibitions since moving to the Bellarine in 2005. Annette is curator of the SpringDale Artists Annual Exhibition and Drysdale Village Medical Centre Foyer Exhibitions. Her supportive and individualized teaching style encourages the development of unique styles and approaches to making art. Her desire is to encourage art making as an enjoyable pastime but also to help each person find a new expressive pathway or career path.

Dr. Gillian Turner – Bio

Gillian is an experienced and award winning art practitioner. As an artist, she embraces new challenges, and continues to be inspired by her first encounter with the west coast of Ireland in 2009. It was there that she developed experimental drawing. Gillian’s practice focuses on conceptual work including installations. As a photographer, she explores mixed media on photographic surfaces, and documents the processes and outcomes of her conceptual art pieces.
Gillian has had solo exhibitions, and worked as an artist in residence in Australia and Ireland. She has been awarded Professional Development grants from the City of Greater Geelong to support her work here and overseas.
Gillian is also an experienced educator and published writer.
