Kel’s Corner

For the first time Kel’s Corner, a widely-read column and a favourite on the Bellarine Coast, has been compiled in a single volume.  Kel Davis’s stories, as told to Anne Brackley, capture the essence of a lifetime of experience and wisdom.  Originally published in The Springdale Messenger over a period of ten years, this collection is a must for everyone who lives in the Drysdale and Bellarine area.  It captures an Australia of yesteryear from someone who has been around long enough to have lived through the changes.

Kel Davis was a long-time resident of the Drysdale area with a vast array of skills and experiences.  For almost a decade this Medal of Valour Awarded raconteur shared his stories and knowledge of Drysdale and the surrounding areas through his column Kel’s Corner in the SpringDale Neighbourhood Centre monthly magazine The Springdale Messenger.

Foreword

I sat next to Kel one afternoon and didn’t have a clue where that short conversation would lead. We began to capture stories and although it didn’t even start the way Kel hoped it would –we discovered stories to relate yesteryear to today.
The first story was about Kel’s father’s use of carrier pigeons as mobile communication. With this story down we were off and running.
We both hope you enjoy this collation of Kel’s memories and relive Kel’s experiences alongside him.
