Talking About Autism Group

Anne Brackley
Mother and Autism Advocate

I am lucky enough to live with my son Stirling, who is 22 years old and lives on the Autism Spectrum. Stirling helps me, supports me and educates me regularly and in turn I try to share my skills and time with him. He has shown me, over the years, how to practically support and how to allow space for Stirling to make his own decisions.

I love learning about Autism and sharing my learnings and strategies with others who are interested in this field. By attending various workshops and seminars over Australia I have found various support services and by attending the Asia Pacific Autism Conference in Singapore, in 2019 Stirling and I learnt a great deal. It is very grounding to meet parents and professionals from all over the world who are facing similar challenges.

Each term we advertise a session Talking about Autism and it is as it is named, those present talk about their experiences with Autism, ask questions and share strategies.

We have moved the session over different days of the week and different times of day so more people might be able to attend but this approach doesn’t necessarily allow a community to form. If you would like to suggest other activities we would be happy to pursue your ideas.
My email is coordinator@springdale.org.au and my mobile number is 0407 529 205.

Learning

This is a time for sharing helpful and practical information for people interested in the Autism spectrum.  Those that attend have a real interest in the autism spectrum as they may:
* be a person on the spectrum
* live with a person on the spectrum
* teach / work with people on the spectrum.

You May Achieve

Valuable information you can pass on and learn the latest ideas relating to the autism spectrum.  Be better able to assist people on the autism spectrum.
